Had a minor procedure at the L & D today, from the time I arrived at surgical arrivals to being discharged from the day surgical ward, all the staff were friendly, they listened, were helpful and worked well together. My consultant explained exactly what was going to happen, his anaesthetist explained everything to me and reassured me as I am a nervous patient, in recovery I was well looked after and staff apologised that I hadn't been moved to the day surgery ward as quickly as they would have liked. When in day surgery ward I was there for about 4 hours and the staff were great, not only did they look after all the patient's medical needs, they also offered tea and sandwiches or biscuits a couple of times during my stay. I wasn't left there lying in a bed on my own, the staff frequently checked on everyone's well being and I was only discharged when I was sure I was feeling well enough to leave, compared to three years ago for the same procedure I was rushed out and ended up at my Gp's out of hours surgery the same night due to not feeling well, so this has definitely improved.
My only gripe was that a lady on the ward had her husband with her the whole time which I didn't feel was right due to being on a women's ward, as it could be uncomfortable discussing 'women's' things or using a bed pan when a man was in hearing distance right behind a paper curtain separating the bed, that is just one thing that I feel needs to be addressed, but all in all I can't fault the service of this hospital today
