"Maternity"

After an episode of high blood pressure my consultant at the Borders General Hospital decided to induce me at 39 weeks. My midwife during induction Kerry was fantastic and really reassuring. She done her best to get my into established labour but despite contractions I was dilating. After 3 rounds if the gel I was sent home the following day, after being home for 2 hours my water broke so we made our way back to labour suite. Gemma was my midwife during labour and subsequent delivery. She was amazing, the care and encouragement she gave me over the next 9 hours was beyond what I could have expected, when I was examined at 3am I was only 3cm despite being on the induction drip for   4 hours.

The doctor Pip cane in to put a clip on my baby’s head as she was shoeing signs of distress. At 4am after a substantial bleed Pip made the decision to perform a Caesarean section. My anaesthetist Sophie was fabulous and put my spinal in. The caesarean was a success and my daughter was born healthy. Unfortunately I began to bleed and could feel pain so they had to revert to a general anaesthetic. I lost several litres of blood. My aftercare on Ward 17 was nothing short of amazing. Kerry and her student Gillian was brilliant they looked after me and encouraged me to stay in hospital longer which has helped speed up my recovery. Everything I could possibly need was taken care off and helping me with my new daughter. All the staff on Ward 17 were amazing but these 2 really went above and beyond to help me.

My labour and birth was quite traumatic but because of the care and attention to detail of all the staff I have mentioned they made it easier for me and my partner. I would also like to add the care and attention my partner received was just as good as me the patient and we can’t praise the NHS any higher for everything they have done for us
