I feel my mum's care on ward 9 has left a lot to be desired. She went in for an xray and was in hospital suffering from sickness and diahorrea.
She also either had a kidney infection, a uti or a kidney injury - however its not clear which as staff have not been willing or able to clarify. Staff are also unsure where my mum's arm is broken - some say its her clavicle, some say humerus, a d yet others say her wrist is broken. Nonetheless, she has been fitted with a sling to help heal this and on over 3.occassions I have visited this sling has been hanging on the back of the door.
I have also been in to visit and as usual her door was closed and all curtains drawn, and the alarm was going off on the machine that was giving her fluids - there was an occlusion. Noone could hear the alarm, my mum was bedbound and didn't even notice the alarm. I pressed the button to call staff and 15 minutes later still noone had arrived, despite staff being present at the nurses station apparently having a social chat.
Frankly, I have unfortunately experienced the services on offer at Wishaw University Hospital a lot over the last year and it is extremely clear, that on the wards where there is a fast turnaround of patients eg ward 18, icu etc, the staff and the services provided on these wards is beyond compare. Sadly, however, on the wards where patients tend to stay for longer, the same cannot be said. Rude, unprofessional nurses, skiving, sub-standard care seems to me to be the norm here, sadly again emphasised by my mums recent stay in ward 9, and my recent stay on ward 18.
