I was due to have an operation for Dupuytren’s Contracture on 30/11/18. I attended a pre-op on 2/11 and was told to attend on the above date at 12 o’clock. It was not mentioned at the time but I now understand that this is the time allocated for general anaesthetic operations. I phoned to confirm this appointment about a week later and was told that I needed to attend at 7 am as the operation would be under local anaesthetic.
On 28/11 I was phoned to say that there had been a cancellation and could I attend on 30/11! I advised that I was already on the list for that day. I then got a second phone call on that day to say that my operation had been cancelled as I needed a general anaesthetic!! This had been rearranged for 21/12 at - 12 O’CLOCK, as per my original appointment. Unfortunately I am due to travel at that time for Christmas, so had to decline and I am now back on the waiting list. My question is how was it incorrectly decided to change me from the original general anaesthetic to a local one?
