"NO HOT WATER ON ISGU!!"

About: Tameside General Hospital

I visited my friend today on ISGU (Hartshead building)

To my alarm, my friend told me that there is no hot water available on the ward for patients to wash, bathe or shower!

I understand that this has been the case for three days.

How is it possible to maintain cleanliness and prevent the spread of infection? Also, patient dignity and respect is vital for recovery.

This must be a breach of Health and Safety regulations; I cannot see how a ward can be allowed to remain open without this vital resource, nor how this could have been left unattended to for so long.

Good evening

Thank you for raising these concerns with us, I was very sorry to hear of these difficulties and that these impacted on your friend during their admission. Following some enquiries I understand that calls were made to our Maintenance help desk on 26th November owing to problems with the heating and hot water supply to the Unit. I am advised that these were reported as the problem was identified and this was resolved by the on-call Team the same evening.

Our enquiries have concluded that this was not an on-going problem, and I would like to assure you that the Trust has contingencies in place for ward closures should there be any long term issues or problems which cannot be resolved and begin to affect patient comfort or our ability to provide safe and effective care.

I am very sorry if your friend was uncomfortable during their admission and if this issue gave you and them cause for concern.

kind regards,

Alexia Charnley
