"Lack of a district nurse"

About: Lancashire & South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust / District nursing Royal Preston Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

My daughter has been through hell for the last 7 year. At the age of 22 she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer! She had chemotherapy and, fingers crossed, it destroyed it all.

Chemotherapy is not without its downside. It damaged her internal organs quite a bit and she has had 5 operations since to repair damage.

She has just had another major operation called a Psoas Hitch. This is to ensure that her Urethra and Bladder are connected again. She had both stitches and staples. She recently went to her GP to have the staples removed but the wound burst open and she was rushed to hospital. They "packed" the wound and she went home the day after. She had not been home more than 4 hours when the other wound burst open discharging pus and blood. At hospital she was given antibiotics and went home.

Ok, I know that was a long story but ...... her District Nurse then came to change the dressings and repack them. My daughter was then told that she didn't need a District Nurse and that she had to go to a treatment centre every day! How is she meant to get there? Public transport is totally out. She can drive but is not allowed to due to the operation. Just how much more is she expected to suffer?

Thank you for this feedback; your daughter has clearly been through an awful lot, and so have you as her Mum.

Please do ask her to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 01772 522972 and they will try to help your daughter in any way they are able.

PALS are open Monday - Friday from 9 - 4-pm.

with best wishes,
