"Disgusted in the labour ward!!"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I was booked in for a induction at 8am on arrival everyone was nice they got me on the ward put my pesery in and within minutes I was having contractions. Then they stopped so got told to walk around to try and help later that evening the contraction started again and one of the nurses put me on the machine and told me I wasn't having contractions! Then felt my stomach and told me she thought the baby had turnt so had to wait for someone to come and scan me waited until 2 in the morning to be told the baby was head down and the machine wasn't working. They then told my birthing partner she had to go home at 3am!! No public transport at that time. The next morning I got told that they was to busy to take me to labour ward and had to wait. Then got told to remove my own pesry in the toilet. Then got taken up at 11pm all was going to plan had a lovely midwife and helper but baby wasn't ready to come so they put me on the drip. It was then time for change over and I was in labour they checked me over and I was 6cm and my body was contracting and pushing they told me not to push a little hard when your body Is doing it itself so I asked for an epidural 3 times they put the needle in my back to get the right spot!! Now at 3pm I was ready for baby to come out pushing and I just couldn't do it no more and the midwife told me I had to push and there was no help from tools in her room she asked my birthing partner to push on my neck as I was pushing!! Then baby arrived. I wasn't allow to dress my baby they did that then took them 3 hours to come check me to discharge me I asked them to check the baby as baby had brusing from Labour they ignored my request. Then had a call for my 72 hour check up so back to hospital I went to then be accused of harming my baby due to brusing. After being in hospital for 4 day with no communication I had to keep asking for updates I had social come to me and say after an investigation you could tell it was trauma at birth and she was sorry i had to go through it.beacuse there was no signs on my records that baby was born with brusing no record of how much blood I lost seeing as the midwife said I lost alot of bloody no sign of stitches on my notes!! Then the pediactrian came in and basically said well after the investigation we will never know what happen. The when discharged baby was discharged 2 hours before me. Also when leaving I thanked some of the staff that commicated with me and one nurse said let's hope we don't see you back here!! Very angry and still upset even though this happened over a year ago!!!!

I am so sorry that you felt discussed by the care you received during your time on the labour ward. I can see that this experience has made you angry and upset. This is very disappointing for us and we would like to learn from your experience. Can you please make contact with myself Trudie.roberts1@nhs.net, to enable us to meet and go through your experience in person. In this way we can take learning back to the staff involved and reduce the possibility of this happening again. We will also be able to show you systems that have been put in place recently, for you to be able to give your opinion on these being able to reduce the possibility of your experience being repeated.

Kind regards

Trudie Roberts
