I chose George Eliot Hospital, Nuneaton for my glaucoma and cataract treatment because it had a shorter waiting list than Warwick Hospital. On my first visit in January 2018, I was told that I needed laser treatment and good bye. Nothing was explained to me. I had to ring up, (from home), for information.
I’ve since had 2 visits for YAG laser treatment. At the end of each treatment I was given eye drops to use for 5 days as per the instructions on the medication label. After the second treatment I was told that I will be contacted me for an appointment for a check up in 2 months.
After 3 months went by, I rang up to see what was happening. There was no apology, and I was given an appointment in a month’s time... a total of 4 months since the last YAG procedure
During the check up, 16/11/18, the nurse asked if I had been taking my drops. I said I had taken them for 5 days as instructed on the label. She told me I should have been taking them constantly and that they should have been on repeat prescription. Nobody had told me that or notified my GP of the repeat prescription, so in total I’ve missed 6 months of important medication.
After the check-up, 16th Nov by the nurse, I went to see the doctor. During the consultation, the doctor asked me which was my "lazy" eye. I was surprised by this as no one had told me that
I had a lazy eye, and I would expect that information to be in their notes. When I said I didn’t know, the doctor said ,"Oh, we shall start with the right eye for the cataract procedure". That did not fill me with confidence. I was also told not to go for an optician's appointment.
When I asked further questions about what was involved in the treatment, the doctor said to me that all questions will be answered at the assessment and ended the appointment. I’m not even sure if I’m going to be having the cataract procedure at the assessment or just talking about it?
The cataracts assessment has been booked for 3 months time, which means it will have taken more than12 months to start this treatment/procedure. I am afraid that I am not filled with confidence at/in this department.
My treatment is still on going!
Kind regards
B.N
