"Mental health"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Mental Health

(as a relative),

My family member was admitted to A&E through the night. He is a veteran and recently, for whatever reason, he found himself back there and contemplated suicide.

He was taken there by police for his own safety and seen by a MH nurse who wasn't nice whatsoever to the extent the police who were with my family complained to A&E staff. I thought this service was to help people not let them down.

Dear Vetrain,

I'm sorry to hear about the experience you and your family member when attending the Emergency Department and subsequent engagement with mental health services. I'm sorry that staff behaviour was not of the standard we would expect and apologise for any distress this may have caused. I have ensured that the senior charge nurse addresses this with the mental health team who attend the Emergency Department.

I apologise that you felt the nurse lacked empathy, understanding and professionalism but can assure you that all staff are regularly reminded of their professional responsibilities with regard to how they communicate with patients in their care.

I would be more than happy to meet with you to discuss, you can contact our Patient Affairs team on 01236713065 to discuss the matter in more detail.

Take care,

Lorna
