"Genuinely surprised by Amazing maternity care"

About: North Middlesex Hospital / Maternity care

I was due to give birth end of January 2018 at UCH. I decided on that hospital because I had heard good things. I was told towards end of pregnancy by UCH that i had placenta previa and the chances of a bleed was possible. One afternoon a month later and 6 weeks before my due date I started bleeding heavily at home and had to call the ambulance. Our closest hospital is North Midd so the paramedics took me there. They called ahead and when I arrived there were two doctors scrubbed up and ready to take me in for an emergency c section and nurses on stand by. The bleed slowed down but I was kept in on bed rest until they gave me a date for a c section (the consultant decided to give baby more cooking time before we took him/her out) the consultants were very patient and sweet and supportive as I was very nervous and emotional. My husband and I must have asked a million questions and never once did we feel we were undermined or rushed. Our son arrived safely a month early. And the surgery though complicated with the placenta, was successful. Our son had breathing difficulties when he arrived and was rushed to ICU. They put me in my own private room so i wouldn't have to be around other mothers with their newborns. They were very understanding and sympathetic in what was a very difficult time for new parents. Our son was taken care of in neonatal beautifully and soon was off the ventilator and i was given a room near his ward by the end of his week stay there so we could establish a breastfeeding routine. Honestly if I am truthful I dreaded going to north mid that first evening in ambulance because I was convinced UCH was the place for me. But the care and expertise from the nurses, consultants and midwives was outstanding and if I were to be lucky enough to have a 2nd baby I would not hesitate to give birth there again. Dear Louise, Neo and baby Raphael,

Thank you so much for your lovely feedback. I am exceptionally proud of the services we offer to mothers and babies here at North Middlesex, and was delighted to receive your feedback. Our teams are dedicated to ensuring women not only get the safest possible care, but that they are also treated with compassion, individuality, and respect. I’m so pleased to read that despite his rather exciting welcome to the world, yourself and Raphael were given the time and space you needed to establish breastfeeding, preparing him and yourself for your breastfeeding journey at home. I will pass on your kind words to our maternity and neonatal teams, who will be delighted to see the feedback and how wonderfully you are all getting on.

Kind regards

Shereen Nimmo,

Head of Midwifery and Gynaecology

North Middlesex Universities Hospital Trust
