"Miscarriage"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital

(as a service user),

I wanted to write to let you know about the fantastic care I received in Rubislaw ward this week.

After having some bleeding at 10 weeks i called Rubislaw on Sat evening and was booked in for a scan on Sunday am.

When I arrived a little early (alone as partner had to be elsewhere) the sonographer Amber took me straight away so i didn’t have to wait around. She was very professional and caring and delivered the sad news that my baby had died a few weeks previously, very sensitively. I was understandably upset and shown to a room to be seen by a midwife.

Susan again was lovely, patient with my tears and went through my options. I was keen to move swiftly and she arranged for me to return the next day for medical treatment.

From 730am the following day to when we left at 1700 the care was fantastic. Jenny (hcsw) couldn’t do enough for us- bringing tea,  toast, lunch, heatpacks etc. Lesley delivered my treatment with compassion and a smile and made us both feel at ease.

I was given privacy to go through the process which I appreciated but also felt very cared for and was checked on regularly. Myra was also so lovely and chatted with me when I was pacing the corridors. When I finally passed my baby she came to confirm this with me and reassure us. My partner was so thankful that she checked if he had any questions - that small gesture was so appreciated.

We met Susan once again for a final examination before discharge and again she was very caring and I felt in safe hands.

My discharge was handled swiftly (i had to collect our son from nursery) and the entire process was made as smooth as possible,

The whole team in Rubislaw made a heartbreaking time a little easier to get through and I am forever grateful- thanks you

Dear Nutella86,

Thank you for getting in touch during what must be a very difficult time for you and your family, please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your baby.

It is lovely to hear that you were treated with compassion, dignity and respect. I know the team try very hard to provide this care, which can sometimes be in very difficult circumstances.

I will pass on your comments to the team who will be delighted to hear how well you felt cared for.

Warmest Regards

Liz
