"The enhanced recovery programme"

About: Ayrshire Central Hospital / Maternity care

(as the patient),

I have 2 children, both born via caesarean sections. The first one in April 2014 and the second this October 2018. I had a very slow recovery the first time, especially in the first few days. I remember still feeling unable to get out of bed and mobilise at around 18hrs after my first section. I felt very dizzy and sore and I felt that I was about 2 weeks before I was able to get out and about. The recovery this time was fantastic. I was up out of bed, with assistance, 6hrs post surgery and unaided at 7. 5hrs. I was able to care for my baby myself on that first night. I was also home the following evening. The combination of anti-emetics, analgesia and early mobilisation post surgery have made a huge difference and I cannot praise this new recovery programme enough. It has been implemented very well.

Dear Jenz

Congratulations on the birth of your little one and thank you for your wonderful feedback. We adopted the enhanced recovery method of care recently and I am delighted it is having the positive effect in the care we provide for women who are using our theatre service.

Thanks once again and I will feedback to all staff involved in your care
