"Excellent Care By Caring Staff"

I was admitted onto Ashdale ward after not eating for 32 days and no fluids for 9 days, I lost 4 stones in weight in that period, was very weak and had given up on the will to live. I had attempted suicide twice on a bridge and overdosed twice but decided to starve myself to death. One evening a member of staff sat at the side of my bed for 5 hours and due to both of us being involved in the same sport of rugby he mentioned that we all stick together in our sport as comrades and he wanted me to listen to him as he pleaded for me to take a drink of water. He informed me that I would be moved into the hospital and force fed the day after. I listened to him and eventually sipped some water which led to me drinking two jugs full and within 30 minutes I was eating 2 slices of toast. I owe my life to that guy and another who played the same sport who came into see me the morning after and persisted that I eat and drink and carried on from the guy the night before. I was so weak I could not stand, was dizzy and disorientated but after a few days managed to get about and eventually eat three meals a day and even ordered takeaways for the last four nights before leaving. I cannot praise the two guys enough and the rest of the staff were absolutely brilliant. Without them I would not be here today. Thanks to all of you for saving my life.
