About: Cumberland Centre

I tried to visit the Cumberland Centre today with an eye injury, however I was not even able to get through the door. The state of the carpark is awful-cars were double parked with one in a space and then one perpendicular on the end of the space. How can it be that for a centre that is a 40 minute walk out of the town that there is not enough car parking? I couldn't get a GP appointment and I don't want to take the time of 111 operators or the A&E department- which this centre is supposed to relieve pressure on- so what now? It's ridiculous- I'm not the first person to say this. What is the point of a minor injuries unit that people can't get to?

Sort it out.

I do apologise about the difficulty that you had in parking and getting to the MIU. Unfortunately the car park is used by everyone accessing the Cumberland, plus the dental school, the GP surgery and pharmacy. In addition members of the public also park here. There are no restrictions.

We are aware that parking is a frustration for everyone. The issue of permits and charging has been raised before and your posting has prompted the MIU Matron to raise this again with Estates. However, charging will not be popular with people either. We would appreciate ideas on solutions that people using the centre might have.

Regards,

Claire Gatehouse
