"Not the worst"

About: Mill View Hospital

1. It is a clean environment, and unlike some hospitals consultants and other staff are not quick to enforce or even allow strong or addictive medications like benzodiazepines or accufaze. This is generally a good thing except when patients are literally going out of their mind with stress and anxiety in which case a small one off dose of benzodiazepine may be useful.

2. Like many hospitals this one gives absolutely no weight to a patient's desire not to be medicated. Sometimes a patient will be either strongly persuaded or even forced to take medication against their will even when this is not strictly necessary. I was able to refuse life saving treatment for a paracetamol overdose to the point that I nearly died, yet I was not allowed to refuse treatment when I was admitted to a mental hospital after this episode. The treatment in the mental hospital had more horrific side effects and consequences then the suicide attempt itself.

3. Psychiatrist at Mill View of MIT no circumspection with regards the very controversial diagnostic criteria for mental health disorders. Privately psychiatrist will often admit that this is basically guesswork, that the criteria are somewhat arbitrary and other means of categorising human behaviour rather than the documentation of our understanding of the human being. Yet psychiatrist pretend they have an exact science at their disposal.

4. I requested my medical notes and saw blatant errors in the interpretation of my behaviours which form the basis for my treatment and diagnosis. Even though they were obvious errors when I challenge them I was told I was not able to have my medical notes rectified.

5. They see the diagnosis rather than the human being; the task of understanding the patient is not one taken seriously by the psychiatrist.

6. Ambulance world, and infinity of psychiatrists. They say the lines that define me. To be sure; No Psychiatrist Lies.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us regarding your recent visit to us here at Mill View Hospital. Although a stay in any hospital can be difficult I've found that when individuals share their experiences it gives us a platform to be able to continue to better ourselves, so thank you.

I think you raise some really valid points that I will be sharing with our

Matrons and Ward Managers but also with the wider multi disciplinary team including Consultants, Occupational Therapists and Social Workers. I really do want to thank you for sharing your experiences with us, if you would find it useful to share your experiences face to face I would be more than happy to meet with you.

If you wish to meet then please do feel free to email me on mark.pattison@sussexpartnership.nhs.uk

Best wishes

Mark
