"5 hour waiting with a small boy"

About: Northwick Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

Yesterday evening my 5 year old son, his mother and I came to Northwick Park at 4.20 pm. My son had lodged a sticker up his nose at school. Encouraged after checking in seeing a flow chart sign in the children's waiting room stating a nurse will assess my son's situation usually within 20 minutes, and if necessary recommend a specialist to see him, usually within 2 hours. My optimism was massively premature. 4 hours later after many children and parents had been and gone. Many coming after us, i went to the reception desk enquiring about our progress to even see a nurse. I was told 2 were before us so not long. And

hour later with again many in the room and in the main hall being seen, my son's mother went to the clinicians desk, she is a doctor in her own country, and again asked what was happeming. After another 10 minutes a lovely nurse called us and within a few minutes had retrieved the sticker, much to our relief. What a complete shambles this hospital processing is, and might i gently say please remove that big "management?" Flow chart as it is a complete joke. Needless to say this is no way to treat a child of 5 who has to go to school the next day and whom eventually got to bed at 10.30 pm. I know you will reply you were busy and others had priority medical issues, but not so the latter as many many children running with my child around were seen before us in a continuous gazumped situation. NEEDLESS TO SAY I AM DISGUSTED. Thank you very much Northwick Park hospital. And to rub salt in the wound i was charged £16 pounds car parking fees.

Dear Sir

I am really sorry to hear about your disappointing experience and the difficulties that you had getting your son seen in a timelier manner in the Emergency Department.
