"Unacceptable wait and indifferent staff"

About: Barnet Hospital / Ophthalmology

Received a letter dated 1/8/18 giving me an appointment at RFH ophthalmic dept at Barnet Hospital today 9/10/18, which I attended. No reason given, generic letter, but assumed it was follow up after capsulotomy in July. The letter contained the threat that if I did not attend the appointment (about which I was given no information) my doctor would be informed and i might not be offered another appointment. Waited 1.5 hours then given drops in both eyes and sight test. When I asked the reason,

I was refused any information by the nurse. Waited two more hours, then told nurse I was leaving, as I had to collect grandchildren from nursery in Camden. The nurse then said patients are told to allow four hours for these appointments. Not only was I never told this but I still do not know why I was sent the appointment. The nurse who gave the eyesight test and administered the drops refused me any information about my own case. ("Doctor will tell you"). I did not have time to wait for the doctor to see me. I had to get a taxi to Camden, at some expense. I was very upset about the whole experience - do I have to make a FOI request to find out why the Royal Free sent me an appointment letter ? I intend to write to the head of the ophthalmology dept and the administrative heads of the Royal Free about this. I do not like being treated like a halfwit and I have the right to be told why I am summoned for an appointment.
