Having undergone bilateral surgery for cancer, advised by my Oncology provider that future bloods should be taken from my foot to reduce the risk of lymphema plus given the fact I have poor veins as a result of chemo.
I was advised the hospital unable to facilitate future bloods but given the fact my GP also unable to meet this request because in theory they commission providers to host and provide services . Incredibly frustrating to learn there is no collaborative arrangement between primary and secondary care and no policy in place.
Services should me made available to meet the need of patients not the trust .I am aware of a patient who has no arms and the trust can facilitate blood request but because my disease is not visible then am unfairly treated and suggested it is deemed a infection control risk.
I never indicated dissatisfaction with the phlebotomy team but the lack of policy and no negotiation.
I will be transferring my care to a neighbouring provider who has available resources to meet patient needs. I have been made to feel my request was unreasonable.
It was following on from advice given. A little research goes along way , browse Macmillan as this information is available to gain knowledge and understanding.
As some people cleary lack insight . Personally would prefer to have my bloods from my arms but my veins have collapsed as a result of chemo so you were very wrong to make me feel as I was making u reasonable demands. I have cancelled surgery as a result of this.
This will be pursued much further. The service level agreement clearly needs reviewing and policy needs to be revised to reflect this. We are in changing times , stop focusing on the problem and start seeking solutions .
All you have done is move the problem back to my GP. I hope this is taking into consideration when redesigning future services.
