I was referred to the professor during the summer 2016... He informed me that I had Trigemnal Neuralgia and that my best form of treatment would be brain surgery. He explained the procedure in detail, patiently and calmly and gave me a few weeks to make a decision. He was excellent and gave me complete confidence in his ability to perform the surgery. I signed up and was told the Operation would be in approx 6-8 weeks. 8 weeks later I hadn't heard anything, not even a pre-op.... I rang and was told a mistake had been made and I had been missed off the list, that I would be re-added from the date I should have been and so my operation would be very soon. a few weeks later I still hadn't heard anything so i rang again to be told that once again I had been missed off the list. Hospitals have a duty to operate within a certain time frame of offering you the surgery (which if i remember correctly is 3 months) so a week before this deadline ( after which the hospital gets some kind of fine/mark against it) i was offered the surgery with just a couple of days notice but by another surgeon. I said No because I had faith in the professor but didnt want another surgeon who I hadnt even met doing it at short notice. I got told this meant the hospital would go over the 3 months deadline and got spoken to like it was all my fault. I stuck to my decision and waited for the professor to perform the surgery. Surgery was successful and despite a few side effects I am very happy that the professor has changed my life for the better. I was told that I would be in Salford Royal for 5 days to recover but was rushed out after 2 days as it was Christmas and they didnt want me there, I wasnt comfortable going home so early but was literally pushed out of the door. I had some memory problems after my op which I went for an MRI scan i think 9 months ago, i was told that if there was a problem they would get me back straight away, if not they would refer me to a Neurologist for investigation.... I have never heard how that scan went or heard from a neurologist, have left several voice mails (because no-one ever answers the phone) but no one gets back to me. It's a shame that the professionalism and care of the professor is not shared by the rest of the staff at this hospital. Brain surgery is scary and stressful enough with constantly having to go through all this other stuff.
