"No help or advice at Orthopaedic Clinic"

(as the patient),

For 6 months after a fall.  I suffered with severe knee pain. I attended physio which did not help with my pain. Dr tried me on almost every painkiller. Nothing took this pain away. I was off work for 3 months using a crutch to walk. I am now on tramadol and naproxen.  I have attended drs , minor injuries, accident and emergency on and off. With no one helping me greatly.

After almost demanding an mri scan and ortho appt. I attended NVH Ortho clinic. I knew the minute myself and partner was not going to get any answers. The consultant asked when I entered what I knew about osteoarthritis told them I knew a fair bit as I have it in my foot. They took my weight and height. Started explaining the anatomy of the knee. I’m waiting on the results of my mri scan. Still nothing. I was told due to my weight they could not and would not do an operation on me. I’m 51 years of age I am overweight but hold down a very physical job. The consultant knew I wasn’t happy. I was told if they gave me a new knee it would only need replacing in 10 years. I said was it not worth the chance. I was told, no. And there was nothing they could do to help. The consultant asked me what did I hope to achieve out of this consultation I said answers and help with my pain so I can get back to leading a nearly normal life again. I was told to see my GP, they deal with pain. I asked about my walking. I was told if you can’t walk more than 20 minutes without pain. Then don’t walk. I asked about my work. The consultant shrugged their shoulders and said basically just go home and rest. I said my that my knee arthritis was not down to my weight and why do you always bring that up. I told them I was in excruciating pain and crying. The consultant acted like they could not careless. Their attitude was awful. I have since heard that orthopaedic drs have made there mind up before they come in the room who they are going to operate on and who they are not. 

I am now disgusted and disappointed about the way I have been treated.  I feel more needs to happen to help people with pain.
