"Took helpful care of my uncle"

About: Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Cardiology / Coronary Care Unit Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Diabetes Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Emergency Medicine Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Endocrinology (Hormones)

(as a carer),

A& E (then ward 105) is always so busy but doctors and nurses took good care of my uncle when he had heart problems again recently.

They listened to us, did the checks and took time to review medical knowledge rather than faffing us off to go home again. Gave him medication to stabilise heart and reduce hi-water content/swelling despite so low in amount of nurses and doctors and other medical staff - you guys are great despite these stresses. Especially in calming patients without faffing them off.

Pharmacy issued medication after treatment could be a whole lot faster; they hold up patients and nurses; waited over 6 hours for tablets before he could leave.

Dear IM69

Many thanks for taking the time to share your recent experience when your uncle was admitted to A&E. It must have been a worrying time for you all but so glad that the team took good care of him.

We always aim to deliver person centred care and keep patients and families informed and glad you experienced this.

I apologise that there was a significant delay in your uncle receiving his medication before he could leave and I will share your concerns with colleagues in the pharmacy department.

With best wishes to you and your uncle

Kind regards

Fiona Robertson

Chief Nurse
