"Recent surgery at Forth Valley Royal Hospital"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / General surgery Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Xrays & Scans

(as a service user),

I was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer and had been referred to FVRH for a second opinion .

I was seen by Ms Mchilheny and Rhona the breast nurse . The treatment and care that I received was truly amazing . They were kind and emphatic and took the time to explain all of my options thoroughly, allowing me time to make decisions that were thought out and right for me . Whilst this was ongoing more investigation work was undertaken and more issues were discovered and this was checked thoroughly with involvement from cross border senior radiologists and so many nursing staff members from radiology to the wards . Mr Evans had taken time to review a potential issue with anaesthetic issues and they all seemed to communicate well and a plan A, B and C were settled in with all parties . It made me feel that I had a team of experts fighting for my cure and  frankly a positive outcome . I was involved in every decision and no question was too silly or irrelevant . They at all times kept my Gp up to date and Dr McGettigan would check in by phone to see how everything was progressing  and always ready with a smile and a laugh .

The surgery day started with time at nuclear medicine and in radiology department and having spent nearly 4 hrs with the help of the staff at the radiology department  and Dr Johnstone to get me ready for the surgery , I was calm and settled as their care had been so amazing ..at one point the lovely radiologist was holding my hand whilst hanging virtually upside down off a chair !

At every step the staff at Fv were so lovely and I had two anaesthetist’s and two surgeons to complete a lengthy surgery that they did amazingly and the results are so much better than I could have hoped for !

The day centre nurses throughout the night and next day were truly wonderful , nothing was too much trouble , they all had a quick smile and were so kind . They genuinely all seemed to love there jobs and were positive in all their approaches .My room was immaculate and the food was great . Everything went as we had planned and during a stressful time was  very empowering and made it so much easier for me .

I have a long journey through treatments but I am so positive as I really feel that I am not on my own and the NHS at it’s best is a world class organisation and all it’s staff are a total credit .

Thank you so much Forth Valley Royal Hospital
