About: The Lakes Medical Practice

Myself and my wife registered here two weeks ago. Initially, the process was smooth. Initially. Then I was told by a receptionist that I need a new patient check with a GP and to call on the day, first-thing, to get an appointment. Upon calling on one of the days the practice is open after standard working hours, I was told by a different receptionist that this appointment needs to be with a nurse and they can't be booked on the day. The next available ones were at the end of the month, which was not ideal.

My wife booked an appointment with a GP as she was unwell. She was then forced to wait 40 minutes past the appointment time, as a late patient (later than 10 minutes to his appointment) was allowed to see the GP. No apology from the reception team, just forced to wait - looking at the most algae-filled fish tank I'd ever seen. Not exactly the picture of hygiene I'd expect from a doctor's surgery. The only plus I can give is that the GP was extremely well mannered and apologised for the delay.

After again speaking to the reception team to try and figure out if I needed to see a GP or a nurse, I was told that I needed to see a GP. Only after I laid out the reception team's failings in handling this did the receptionist consult her supervisor, who did in fact confirm that the new check appointment is with a nurse, but had no availability until 3 weeks later now so I'll have to go without my medication until then as prescriptions will not be given until this check has been completed (medication I have been on for years, as shown in my medical record).

An absolute shambles. I'll be registering with The Poplars Medical Centre around the corner. There's no way it can be this bad.
