"My Father's surgery"

My Father had surgery at Medway Maritime Hospital and from start to finish the processes were slick and patient focussed.

He was admitted 7am Wednesday morning for a planned nephrectomy but unfortunately was second on the list, so was not taken to surgery until 13:15 that afternoon. This was communicated clearly though and he was cared for accordingly until the time came for him to go down to theatre.

Every member of staff we encountered was kind, compassionate and kept my Dad's spirits high, even when he was in pain.

The nursing staff on Kingfisher ward were particularly amazing and even though they were clearly under a lot of pressure, they made time to chat with my Dad and make sure he had everything he needed.

He was discharged home by 7pm the next day and able to go and be with his family in his own surroundings, where I am sure he will recover a lot faster.

The NHS is made up of thousands of caring health professionals, who are also human, I wish people would remember this. My Dad has had his (potentially) life saving operation and is now home safe with his loved ones. This is not the case for many of the staff in the NHS, whom rarely see their loved ones from week to week because of long hours and for this I am forever grateful.
