Recently the reception staff have been very helpful to me as have 2 doctors I see.
However, one doctor has extremely poor communication skills, is abrupt and almost shouts at you down the phone. It's very offputting and anxiety provoking when you are ill and trying to get help. As an example, I had a call with him about a stomach issue and described how I had recently changed my diet to a healthier one cutting out caffeine, sugar, dairy, gluten.
Instead of encouraging my positive steps towards a better diet he started practically shouting at me about how 'healthy' isn't a describable term, that everyone needs gluten in their diet, and that I should just carry on as I was and I wouldn't have the problem. He ignored the test results I sent him but subsequently I went to see another dr and presented the same test results.
Without prompting from me wrote to a consultant gastroenterologist to get advice because of one of the markers. He had done thorough research on all the markers and had noted in the margins points to raise with me when I went to see him and we ticked them off as we went along the page. This is how a GP consultation should be.
I've had the misfortune of dealing with the aggressive dr three times now on the 'ask my GP' service and I want to be able to specify that he doesn't deal with me anymore as I dread it and spend the entire call trying to justify myself instead of the dr actually listening to me and addressing the problem. Apart from him the other drs have been really good and have even researched things outside of the appointment and contacted me via email with next steps I need to do such as blood tests.
