So often it seems that NHS services are disjointed. That as a patient we are just a condition to one department and a different condition to another. No-one considers the effect of one condition on another or actually joins things up. I am a long term patient of the Rheumatology Department at Gartnavel Hospital in Glasgow as I suffer from psoriatic arthritis. Recently I have been lucky enough to see interactive working within disciplines in this department. Thanks to the consultant and specialist nurse I was recently referred to the rheumatology physiotherapist, who in turn referred me to the rheumatology podiatrist. As a result of Karen and Violet's actions I had ultrasound scans of my foot and shoulder and then a much needed injection from Kay who will now refer me on to orthopaedics and is also sorting out my prescription and appointment. And all of this without being added to usual long waiting lists. From that one appointment in the middle of June I have seen 2 consultants, a physiotherapist, podiatrist and 2 specialist nurses who looked at me as a whole person and not just a condition and dealt with all the issues I am currently experiencing. I would like to publicly thank them all for the wonderful work they do.
"They look at me as a whole person and not just a condition"
