"Infected gallbladder"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / General surgery

(as the patient),

I was sent home ftom A&E in pain with classic gallbladder symptoms. No scan was done because I had "not been vomiting"  I pointed out I thought it was obvious gallbladder issue the attending DR said it was nhs protocol to not scan!

My background health is cancer and Adrenal insufficiency.

I became really unwell and started vomiting so was admitted.

The Consultant told me if I had been admitted from A&E I would have had an operation to remove gallbladder but now it was so infected it had to be cleared up and I would be having it removed 8-12 weeks later.
It is now the 5th Month and no appointment for surgery.
I rang and asked about waiting time and was told it would be many many weeks yet.

I said I believed I had been lied to at the hospital and deliberately mislead as I actually asked if the time the Consultant said was realistic and he had replied yes because it was a bad gallbladder.
The appointment team member said Consultants don't know waiting list times.

I have bot been offered the choice of another hospital for the operation so have no idea if the wait is normal.

Dear Staceytoo,

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I was sorry to read that there appears to be some variation in communication with you about the length of time you would have to wait for your operation, and your concerns of not receiving a scan.

We would be keen to help support you with your appointment waiting time, and discuss further any concerns you have raised above. I would be grateful if you could make contact with our Patient advice and liaison service (PALS) who will be able to take your details an look into this for you.

Our PALS team can be contacted on 01823 34 3536

Kind Regards

Kerry
