"Over 6 months for appointment, no update,..."

About: Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust

I visited the Gynaecology department in February 2018. To start with, there was a long delay for a scheduled appointment. In addition, I ended up not seeing the consultant I was scheduled to see due to another consultant not turning up and her absence causing some chaos in the clinic. Following my consultation, I was to be on the waiting list for surgery which I was advised would be within 3 to 6 months. Now I saw the doctor because I have multiple fibroids which have affected my fertility. I had just turned 43 and desperately trying to have children with my husband for the past 7 years. The doctor I saw told me I needed to hurry cause time was no longer on my side. My husband and I have already considered IVF treatment but obviously, we can't even try any fertility treatment until my fibroids have been taken out. Since my consultation, my fibroids have increased in size and so has the associated pain. It has been a nightmare that has driven me into the deepest abyss of depression for which I have been placed on antidepressants by my GP. I called appointments a million times for update but when someone eventually answered, I was informed I won't get an appointment till the end of the year. I was alarmed and said as much the person I was speaking to, so she asked me to call Gynae secretaries and maybe they can help. Again, after several calls to Gynae Secretaries, when someone eventually answered, they asked me to call appointments. Well, I told them appointments asked me to contact then I was asked to send an email which I did immediately. This was in June 2018 and till now no word from the hospital. I call every week with no success as the phones are never answered. My GP has written to the consultant regarding the adverse effect this is having on my mental well being but still no joy. As I write, I am yet to receive any form of correspondence from the hospital regarding my surgery and the phones are still not being answered. I am very worried about the service I will receive when I do go for my surgery If I eventually get a date. This is really worrying for me and quite frankly this service leaves a lot to be desired.
