About: Northwick Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

A&E

Wed: Dad (94) left in freezing cold bay for several hours without a blanket, despite asking for one.

Blood on floor of bay - not his.

Something disgusting in the sink too (brown and fibrous)

Transferred to Crick

Tried to put Dad in a bed that had a dirty tissue in it. When I asked if they planned to change the bedding, they attempted to usher me away impatiently.

Air con up too high. Dad freezing cold.

Transferred to Dickens

Discharge arrangements absolutely chaotic:

- Signed off by Dr on Friday morning. I was told to come. Had to drop everything and leave work. Arrived at Dad's house (an hour from my home) and was told he would be kept in over the weekend. Conflicting stories as to why. Dr said there was poor communication and he had heart failure so was being kept in ie. not signed off. Discharge manager said it was because carers were not able to re-start before Monday.

- Spoke to another Dr on Saturday to try to get more detail on the heart failure. He said Dad was not discharged as no carers available till Monday - not because of medical problems.

- Spoke to care company on Monday who said they were prepared to re-start care on Saturday but hospital delayed the discharge. Awaiting instructions.

- Tried to get hold of staff at hospital. Dad was told he was being discharged. Then told he was not being discharged. Care company said hospital did not confirm in time to schedule care Monday, so re-starting Tuesday at 12.00 call. Still waiting for hospital to tell me that is their plan.
