"First class care"

About: Marden Medical Practice

I have been a patient with the practice for many years and have seen many changes during that time, not just at the practice but with the NHS as a whole. During this time, I am very grateful that doctors and staff have been well maintained, and standards at the practice have never been compromised. Marden is an outstanding practice but the exceptional care I have received over the past 2 days has brought me to this site, as I felt it necessary to record and praise the wonderful care and treatment I have received. I was upset to find some of the negative comments on this site about the practice as I have only ever received a first class service from them. A week ago I underwent orthopaedic surgery. My mobility was poor prior to the surgery so I had anticipated my post operative recovery being a longer process and more complicated than usual. Before I was discharged I was not able to see an occupational therapist as I had requested, but was advised to contact my GP once I returned home for them to arrange. I spoke with the practice on the day of my discharge and they arranged for an urgent occupation therapist assessment as I was unable to mobilise on my own and take care of my own personal care and hygiene. The practice advised that they had asked for the assessment to be carried out within 24hrs. Unfortunately I was not contacted by this service so I again had to contact the practice for advice. They chased the referral for me, made several phone calls on my behalf and later that day I had a visit from integrated community services (ICS), who were able to provide the necessary aids to assist me in taking care of my own personal care. This morning I woke in terrible pain, with swelling around my wound. I contacted the hospital as I had been advised to do so on discharge, and they explained the treatment I would need, but informed me that I would have to contact my GP to get this initiated as they were unable to do so! I again telephoned the practice who arranged for a GP to call me back within the hour. The GP was able to start the treatment, give me further advice but more importantly, offer me reassurance. I now have a follow up appointment at my practice to ensure my wounds are healing correctly. Is it really any wonder our GP practices are at breaking point? If all hospital departments and community facilities offered a complete and efficient service, dealing with all the patients needs then there would be no need to put this extra pressure on our GP services. Is it really any wonder that you have to wait for a routine appointment with your GP when they are constantly dealing with and mopping up other people's work and responsibilities? I am so very grateful for the help I have received from the practice over the past few days. From the helpful and friendly receptionists, knowledgeable secretaries, to the conscientious and compassionate GP's. I can't express my gratitude enough, your professionalism, dedication and empathy are second to none.
