"Left waiting"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital / Accident and emergency

Whilst the treatment received was very good I don’t think it is acceptable for my relative to have to wait outside for an hour to gain access to the A& E ward following a trip out to put more car parking money in machine. I appreciate that the staff are busy and can’t be constantly opening the door, but in the old style department there was a code or buzzer to press which alerted the staff. I think when you are in hospital having your relative with you at a very distressing time is essential. Please have a look at this situation and try and improve things.

I'm sorry to hear that your relative found it difficult to get back into our Emergency Department. The reception is manned 24 hours a day and so there should have been someone there who would have been able to provide access. I will pass your comments on so the team can look into this.
