"Very vulnerable patient"

About: Leighton Hospital / General surgery

The review about the dementia patient left in own faeces for 2 weeks is in fact more of an acute description of this hospital than the 196 other feedbacks, good and bad! When you think 1000's of patient pass though, that is a very small number to leave feedback and unless treatment is very bad, only those who are grateful for their treatment are going to bother leaving any and they are few. I found the hospital dirty, floors including rooms not even cleaned, food given to a patient that should not have been given and taken away without any questions as to why it wasn't eaten! HCA's did most of the work, trained nurse's where either too busy sitting at the nurses station or 'too good'. The only time they were seen was at drugs rounds, never going round to patients asking how they felt.

I hope doctors were cleaner in their own homes than they were at work This hospital does not warrant 4.5 stars which is very misleading. Nothing to be proud of!

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experiences at Leighton Hospital. I am saddened and disappointed that you had such a poor experience and felt the environment and care was not satisfactory. I am also disappointed that you did not feel able to escalate your concerns at the time.

I am unable to identify a specific area from your comments and would like the opportunity to be able to identify the area so we can address the issues  with the manager . We take any  concerns of this nature  very seriously. I apologise on behalf of the surgical division that our services did not meet your expectations and would like to take this opportunity to invite you to contact the customer care team on 01270 612410, so that we can understand your concerns a little more and start to address the issues, having ascertained more knowledge and the specifics.

I am sure you, like us would not want to see these types of behaviours and practises continue and I would be very grateful for your support in helping the Trust and our division to address these.

Nikki Rafferty

Divisional Matron
