I was at a place where after 6 years my Fibromyalgia symptons were improving & life was starting to become more manageable but the set backs I'm still having seemed to be largely linked to emotional events. These triggers has never been addressed / investigated & I don't want them holding me back anymore. The feeling that I'm making myself ill but unable to control it, unlike the pacing techniques I implement for my activity levels, is very frustrating.
I met with Shole at Ealing IAPT Counselling & I thought it was going to be more about particular people / situations but it turned out to be much more about me & how my past has shaped my coping techniques & interaction with others. This sounds like it's a bigger problem but it actually made me feel like it's more within my control than based on someone else's behaviour.
As you're only assigned up to 10 sessions you can't fix everything but it's a start & an eye opener to what you're facing. Like most things in life, noone can do it for you, you can only do it for yourself. I believe actively engaging & building on your sessions means you will get more from it at the end. I left feeling listened to, supported & guided in what I've been through & what I have yet to come. My journey hasn't ended so more sessions would be great but I feel it was a good start for me & I was lucky to be assigned Shole.
