Firstly I would like to thank the midwives, nurses and staff we dealt with for their excellent job at delivering a Positive Birthing Experience at the Birthing Centre at St. Mary's for my wife and son. All the way through from Breastfeeding and Parenting classes (which were very practical and helpful and certainly made my life as a new dad a lot easier) to pre-natal appointments, the birth and aftercare, the staff at St. Mary's were friendly, helpful, knowledgable and professional. They always made us feel looked after and my wife was in safe hands all the way.
One thing I do want to point out are the amazing facilities for post birth. Being able to spend the first 24 hours the three of us together in a comfortable doublebed with midwives and nurses on call to help and ask questions was amazing.
Please make sure that adequate funding is being made available to maintain these facilities (a lick of paint here and there, to fix broken power sockets, etc, in short cosmetic things). I understand that these are trying times for the NHS but funding must be maintained if not increased for the maternity unit at St. Mary's. The professionals there are doing their best with love and care for their profession and patients.
We will certainly be back in a couple of years with the second one.
Yours sincerely,
"Care received before, during and after the birth..."
