"Outstanding neurosurgeon and team"

About: National Hospital for Neurology & Neurosurgery - Queen Square / Neurosurgery

I underwent surgery in April this year and unfortunately was readmitted with an infection in May.

The neurosurgeon and his team were exceptional as were some of the nursing staff. I am so incredibly grateful to have the country's leading neurosurgeon looking after me and his expertise, kindness and compassion are second to none!

His clinical specialist nurse deserves a medal and is just the most lovely and caring person and so reassuring and kind.

Unfortunately these people are up against it trying day to day to deliver an exceptional service to their patients but are let down by support services!

Communication from the nurses on the ward was appalling.

They were rude to patients and their relatives.

At night their attitudes were indifferent and did not wish to be disturbed by patients, not even for a glass of water.

The cleanliness on the ward(s) left a lot to be desired; human waste on toilet seats, on the floor, filthy showers, urine in bowls left standing on shower floor, doors filthy with human hairs, clothing and other items on the floor and in basins. This was brought to the attention on several occasions to the senior nurses on the ward(s) who did nothing about it or even took it seriously.

The above is a huge problem and could lead to the risk of potential infection among patients.

I think that the hygiene and cleanliness standards have deteriorated since my first admission in 2015.

I think as a hospital this needs serious attention.

The toilets on the ground floor are not fit for use and are permanently disgusting.
