Visited minor injuries unit after first aider at work was unsure if I had a 'foreign body' in my right eye. Told receptionist on arrival the details of what had happened and waited for around 1 hour, no problems so far as it was not a major discomfort. I was in no doubt there was something wrong as I had gone from perfectly ok to being unable to see in a matter of seconds, however upon inspection by the nurse I was told ( after a 30 second examination ) there was DEFINITELY NOT a foreign body in my eye and that I had a stye. I explained how quickly the problem had manifested itself but was again told it was a stye and to come back in 7 days if it had not improved. I then travelled to the RVI in Newcastle where the eye emergency dept.
removed the foreign body, that Shotley Bridge had earlier insisted was not there, and gave me antibiotic gel in case of any possible infection. I shall go to another hospital in future
