"I am eternally grateful."

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

Hi ....I`ve had reason this year to visit on several occasions the Eye Clinic in the Duchess building and on each visit have been amazed at the patience and kindness given by the staff.

The department is often overwhelmed with patients all hoping for help and positive outcomes, however sometimes the sheer volume of patients makes it impossible to be seen on time and then the team are faced with many fractious and impatient people. How they cope and keep their cool amazes me.

So I would like to redress their grumbles by saying  ... Thank you to initially Chloe and Julia who greeted me with a smile on reception, then subsequently Sally and Lyn who administered drops and ask relevant questions, again with enthusiasm and kindness. A little later I saw Sally dispensing iced water to the dozens of hot patients waiting to be seen ... a welcome relief during the heatwave and thoughtful. Michelle was the next person to help me by completing a scan of my eye .... professional and swift whilst I waited to be seen by the doctors.

I watched whilst I waited and a young man named Ben who had dealt with me previously and has an engaging personality, strode back and forth completing deliveries of files or supplies, usually with a smile.

Finally, the time came to be seen by the Doctor/Specialist ...unfortunately the delay was long but patience is well worthwhile as these dear people give their time to help and heal our sight problems and for that I am eternally grateful.   On this occasion, I was seen by Mr Samarasinghe and then Mr Herbert.   They had passed such a long day but still had the time to answer my questions even though it was late. Thank you all for your care and help. Here`s hoping next operation will be successful.

One last mention....phoning the Admissions telephone this morning Natalie answered and was so helpful and kept her promise to phone me back.     Excellent!!!

dear Bambi 379,

Thank you so much for your really positive feedback and well done for remembering so many of the staff names. Patients tell us that knowing who is caring for them makes a real difference to their experience so I am glad they were so accessible and helpful to you. As you remembered all their names this feedback will mean a lot to them.

Everyone tries to keep patients informed of delays but we know this can be very frustrating for people. We are also aware that hospitals can be very hot places at the best of times but with this extended period of glorious weather it has caused a significant raise in the internally temperatures. Where we can, we have taken action to try and cool things down but I am so pleased to hear that the staff have taken the extra steps of offering water to those waiting as keeping hydrated will help keep everyone cool.

I hope your operation is successful.
