"Dr was fantastic but reception unhelpful"

About: Bridgnorth Medical Practice

I had an appointment last week which I had waited 4 weeks for, I didn't mind this too much as I understand that they are busy however about 90 minutes before the appointment I was told that it had been cancelled and that they couldn't be offered another one. After explaining to the receptionist that I had since got a lot worse I need an urgent appointment I finally got one booked for later that day.

Once I got there the Dr was fantastic and very helpful. One of the key points that he made was that I needed to make sure that I was getting enough sleep as a lack of sleep was making my condition worse. He then asked for me to come back and see him in two weeks. As I work a shift pattern in a hospital I knew that it would be hard to find an appointment time within two weeks so was ok with going over that or seeing another Dr if that fit however the reception staff were extremely unhelpful with this. I was offered an early morning appointment and when I said I couldn't be there that early as I was working a 12-12 shift that day and the day before and needed to make sure that I was getting some sleep to stop me from getting ill at work the receptionist shrugged and said "maybe the appointment should be a bit more important than a sleep in".

I have never had problems with this practice before and the doctors have always been fantastic but the receptionist don't seem to realise that they are seeing me at my worst when I am ill and most need some compassion and a friendly face not disinterested rude comments.

It is always much better if patients contact the practice manager, or assistant practice manager directly in these circumstances so that we can immediately identify the member of staff and speak with them, then arrange further customer service training.

I apologise to this patient for the rude attitude from our staff and would very much appreciate it if they could contact by telephone or email to Bridgnorth.medicalpractice@nhs.net for the attention of the practice manager
