Following an accident I was transferred to this hospital from Dewsbury as the specialist I needed operated here. I was admitted to 32a and found it extremley stressful as it was such a busy noisey Ward 24/7. Without going through all the ins And outs of what was to happen I had surgery where a frame was fitted until the swelling went down. I was then transferred to Gate 38, what a relief! I was on here for two weeks before surgery to fix my foot could be performed. I was kept informed of what was to happen by I think junior Dr’s which I understand is normal as the consultant surgeons are too busy to explain to every patient.
The Nurse practioner also kept me up to date on what was happening.
I was anxious but the regular staff on this ward were great. I must say they all seemed to work so well together too. I could mention several people who seemed to go the extra mile to reassure me & spare a minute for a chat.
I must say it’s unfortunate that there are no TV’s to help pass what is a very long day?
I even had one brought in but could not get a signal?
The food!!!! When your unwell I suppose it’s one of the highlights of the day!
I found lots of the meals unappealing, now it may be me but I generally eat lots of different meals. I tended to stick to the salads BUT why put cheese savoury in every salad instead of coleslaw? Why have itallien pasta salad ( I ordered 3 times) when it doesn’t EXIST!!!
The soup I classed as red or white and could often slice!
Sorry to be negative but being bed bound I relied on others serving me if it was a hot meal
And chucking gravy on everything for someone who doesn’t particularly like gravy spoilt EVERY meal?
I was never asked if I wanted gravy. I have to say I soon learnt to order the hot puddings they were superb.
My family visited every day for three weeks and no one told any of us that we could buy weekly parking passes so in effect they spent over £200 on parking, bit unfair if there is a discount? I have not checked but a friend mentioned it to me when I came home.
Apart from this, I was treated with respect, staff were friendly & efficient.
"Three week stay with two surgery’s."
