The staff were great. Really very caring. However, I have coeliac disease and knowing that this is never catered for at any nhs hospital in the lothian area I went prepared. (I live in Edinburgh and had to travel to Fife for a colonoscopy).
I was offered tea and a sandwich and said that I had brought my own bread as I had been told in the letter prior to the procedure that I would be given toast afterwards. I said about being coeliac and handed over my bread. Their kitchen had no toaster due to costs and also had no butter. The poor girl had to take my bread to another area of the hospital to get toast made. She came back about 20 mins later. Seems a bit ridiculous. Coeliac disease is a gastro disease and an endoscopy unit does not cater for people who are major users of the unit.
