"Excellent care throughout"

About: South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust / Emergency ambulance The Great Western Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as a relative),

My mum ended up on the floor having passed out, unable to get back up she called her neighbour who went round to see her and immediately called 999 for an ambulance realising that my mum was quite ill.

the two ambulance crew members who attended, Ian and Paul were excellent. They scooped her up and whisked her off to the hospital. Paul spoke to my wife on the phone, she was upset at hearing that my mum was being taken into hospital, but he calmed her down and let her know that my mum was alright and would be taken good care of. We were on our way to a funeral at the time so unable to go immediately to my mum's aid. In the end my wife went to the funeral and I went to the Great Western Hospital where my mum had been taken.

as I approached the entrance I saw an ambulance being cleaned out, I wondered if the person cleaning up was Paul himself. it was. He again reassured me that my mum was being taken of and led me through the back of the hospital to where my mum was being seen in the A&E department.

My mum was in hospital in the ITU ward for 12 days and is now back at home waiting for a further operation,  My mum herself has commented on the excellent care she received whilst in hospital, from the surgeons to the ward staff to the food, she received good care.

Dear veganm46,

Thank you for taking the time to share your story and I hope your mum is recovering well.

It is always rewarding to hear stories of how our staff are delivering care and support to patients and those around them when they need it most.

We would be happy to share your story with the ambulance staff involved in this instance, however, to do so we will need some specific information. If you would like us to do this, please may I ask you to contact us on either plaudits@swast.nhs.uk or 01392 453 831 and a member of the Patient Engagement Team will be happy to help you further.

Thank you, again, for taking the time to provide us with feedback.

Kind regards,

Sharifa
