On behalf of a family member. An elderly relative was on 14/15 ward at dewsbury hospital. For quite a few weeks. The deterioration throughout her admission was terrible. Called the nurses numerous times to go to the toilet, no one came. My relative asked for someone to help this elderly relative and the attitude was along the lines of “its too much trouble” and witnessed eyes rolling (bearing In mind these staff members were sat down at the desk) this then left the patient to have to urinate in bed which upset her and made her feel like she had done something wrong. Admitted to the ward continent but made to be incontinent .
Thankfully a family member could get to the hospital daily at tea time to help with meals , but reports from other patients stated that dinner and breakfasts are just left out of reach / or that patients aren’t helped with feeding. Discharged to a care home apparently “medically fit” at around 4 stone but made palliative the next day by their GP was absolutely horrific. Care factor zero. Not saying every staff member was like this, there was some really nice caring staff. But the bad experiences have really upset the family and continue to do so.
"Poor care especially for elderly"
