Fall at home. Fractured hip. Very prompt ambulance service. X-ray confirmed fractured hip. Transferred to ward 5, surgery planned for next day.
Nursing staff very friendly, caring and concerned. Analgesia given. Orthopaedic surgeon visited the ward prior to surgery, and took time to find out what my lifestyle was and on that basis decided that a full hip replacement was required. I opted for a general anaesthetic, and after the operation the nursing staff were very caring and attentive despite being under great pressure. Analgesia was given regularly and care was outstanding. Next day Physio, up walking with a zimmer. Did well and next day issued with two sticks and discharged the next day. To sum up: skilled surgeon, caring nursing and ancillary staff = good recovery. After two weeks walking independently, feeling little pain, and the wound healed in a week. Couldn't have had better care in a private facility, therefore NHS is by far the better option.
