"Attended with my 4 week old son.."

About: Royal Bournemouth General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I live 10 mins from Bournemouth a and e and 30 from Poole so chose Bournemouth.

My son of 4 weeks had a rash very hot and continually screaming,

I was told by reception that because he wansnt born in Bournemouth I had to take him to Poole.

1 hr later I am still waiting and nothing seems to be being done. Discussed in the a and e department and especially as it’s a 4 week old...

receptionist was rude too.

Should be in the job of they are going to be rude that like..

Dear Anonymous

Sorry to hear that your recent experience of our Emergency Department has left you with a bad impression of the service we offer and I can assure you this is not the standard we aspire to.

Your comments were passed on to the department who also expressed their disappointment and asked me to pass on their apologies for the way you were spoken to by the receptionist.

During their training the receptionists are told not to advise patients in this manner and the clerical manager will reiterate this to all staff.

We do hope that once your son was seen the clinicians were happy with the outcome and your mind was put at ease.

Once again we apologise for your poor experience and hope this will not deter you from attending in the future should you need to.

Regards

Patient Engagement Team
