"Rheumatology experience"

About: Russells Hall Hospital / Rheumatology

Very pleasant Reception staff and highly personable consultant, who was very empathetic, aimed to explain aspects clearly and concisely. I felt like a person on an equal basis with the consultant, not on a conveyor belt. She was happy to answer questions and was also open to alternative suggestions if appropriate.

The wait to get the first appointment ws disappointingly long, it was requested last May, but saw for first tests in February. The blood tests which I spent 2 hours queueing for, ended up getting lost and thus not reported - so I had to have done again mid- June, so still awaiting the complete story. Also it seemed that the first urine tests had gone missing for a short while. Those particular incidents did not fill me with confidence.

I felt more advice on self-help lifestyle changes and diet should be more pronounced in the hospital. It seems a little odd to me that the very foods especially such as gluten, potatoes are very freely available and condoned in the restaurant and very little fresh salad food. I have been twice recently and the emphasis on the offending foods is very high on the counter but they are also not good for a range of common illnesses. Can Russells Hall perhaps set the example of healthier eating so we don't have to visit in the first place?
