As a family, we have been attending the RHSC in Edinburgh regularly for 2 years now and very quickly we have become accustomed to high quality of empathetic care from all services (medical, nursing, support, domestic, imaging).
I was particularly impressed at the care we received in Surgical Day case recently. We were made to feel welcome on the ward by support staff (CSW Ashling), nursing student (Kirsten), the aesthetic team, nursing staff (Rosie) and the senior charge nurse (Christine). I believe that this may be partly down to the collaborative leadership role modeled by the charge nurse. Despite being taken care of very well by the whole team, the charge nurse came to check that everything was ok. She was present in the clinical area and making contact with all staff and patients on the ward. It seems to me that this is building a strong team and that this positive, collaborative leadership is paying off in terms of effective team work and communication.
Well done to everybody at RHSC who are making our difficult time just a little bit more bearable. Particular thanks also go to the medical and nursing teams within oncology, haematology and ward 2.
