Today I took my husband to his appointment in Cardiology. We waited while the consultant read his reports & then he said, why are you here? SORRY! You sent him an appointment. He asked about test results & I explained that he had various tests months ago but no one seemed to know where the results were. He sent someone to get them & low & behold there they were. Various doctors, a consultant & myself had been trying to find these over the last few months. He said there were no problems with the heart, now wouldn't it have been nice if someone had thought to tell us that months ago?
I pointed out to the consultant that it had been a big effort for my husband to keep the appointment as he is very unwell & has Dementia too.
I also told him that the previous appointment he had I cancelled as he was not well enough to attend, but the letter for this appointment said he had missed the last one & would be referred back to his GP if he did it again. What is the point of cancelling if it is not going to be recorded? He said that the system doesn't always work. So how many other patients are being told off for nothing?
So basically, everyone wasted their time today. Generally speaking I have nothing but praise for the NHS but today shows it needs cooperation between departments.
