I was admitted for total ankle replacement on Tuesday 12th June . Right from the beginning the theatre admission unit staff were very welcoming.I was visited by the anaesthetist who introduced himself and explained clearly what my options were for anaesthesia. Great care was shown to understand my choices and objections. The orthopaedic surgeon visited me to do a brief resume of the replacement procedure and to give me the opportunity to ask questions.Theatre attendants including my escort to theatre put me at ease intoducing themselves and explaining what their respective roles were. The anaesthesia was administered gently and I was taken to theatre where the Orthopaedic Consultant reintroduced himself and his team and after ensuring my comfort the procedure commenced I was kept warm and cosy throughout my operation. Anaesthetist regularly asked how I was I listened to my own pre recorded music the whole time on earphones.
Afterwards in recovery, nursing staff introduced themselves and explained their role before informing me of my transfer to Robert Hadfield6. Every member of ward staff, day shift and night shift were in constant attendance and very reassuring. Ward cleaners, ward waitresses, who delivered delicious food from the unseen catering department were cheerful and helpful at all times. Physio, Occ Therapy, Pharmacy, xray department staff were all extremely considerate and caring, and the porters who transported me back and forth were unfailingly cheerful.
I have nothing but praise for the Northern General Hospital and Its staff. Its commitment to great patient care is certainly worth praising. I am at home now resting, determined to follow any and all instructions in the care and rehabilitation of my new ankle when I come back for my post op. appointments. After having received such excellent treatment and care I aim to be a 5 star patient. My family and I thank you all so much and appreciate you more than words can express.
