In the last two years I have had squint surgery and two cataract operations at NHS North Devon District Hospital Opthalmology Department.
The squint surgery, whilst not 100% successful in terms of realigning my eyes, was hugely successful in improving my cosmetic appearance and giving me a massive confidence boost in the process. I have lived with amblyopia and strabismus all my life and had resigned myself to unsightly appearance until a chance encounter opened the door to further treatment I had believed was unavailable to adults with these conditions. I cannot express how completely grateful and blessed I feel at having this treatment.
I have been unfortunate to have had early onset of a fairly aggressive form of cataracts in both eyes and have in the last two months had surgery on both eyes.i am so glad to say both ops have been a complete success and not only that but I am now, for the first time in over 50 years, free of glasses for long distance.
My consultant, who has seen me through all these operations, is a truly wonderful surgeon. I cannot even begin to thank him enough for everything he has done to help me. I was amazed that I was able to request that he be my surgeon for my cataract ops, having had him look after me for my squint surgery...and having such faith in him helped so much to alleviate any concerns I had over surgery and outcomes.
The nurses and theatre team during surgery were also truly wonderful. Gentle, kind and caring and a deep respect for patients. It was noticeable how clean everything was and how care was taken over the checking system...I really cannot say enough good things about them...all I can say is a massive thank you to everyone at Opthalmology who have looked after me...you really are NHS Angels.
