"A&E department"

About: Kettering General Hospital / Accident and emergency

I have been admitted twice to A&E

1. Walk in patient (wheelchair as unable to walk) I was assessed and given morphine, coedine and diclofenic, but was told it was just my pain that had increased and was discharged at 3 am in the morning after telling them my husband probably couldn’t collect me they said we’ll ring you a taxi 😡! Sent home with 3 days diazepam.

2. Admitted again but through a referral from out of hours GP who were (brilliant), taken by ambulance (brilliant). I was admitted to a different part of A&E, again assessed, given morphine, coedamol and diclofenic. I was left for a couple of hours and then asked how pain was (I was still not able to stand), I was given intravenous paracetamol and diazepam.

I was then told I would be going home and a porter was coming for me, I advised them I couldn’t contact my husband till 8 am (now 5am), I was told I would be put in A&E waiting room till then in a wheelchair. I am now on my 3rd day of excruciating pain and unable to get upstairs or feed myself and don’t know what else I can do but feel disgusted with the attitude of some of the A&E staff.

Good morning,

We sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to your comments left in June.

I have received the comments that you made on the NHS choices website in relation to your attendance at the A&E department, whilst I am pleased to read that you received your pain relief in a timely manner, I fully hear that the time of your discharge wasn’t ideal.

I apologise for your experience in regards to being discharged in the early hours, unfortunately, due to the nature and demand on the department we are not always able to keep patients within the department until later in the day, as the department is not an inpatient ward.

We hope that you have been on the road to recovery since June, if you would like to discuss your experience further with the senior department in the team please make contact through the PALS department on 01536 493305 or via email pals@kgh.nhs.uk. Once again, our sincerest apologies for the delay in response, your feedback has been greatly received and we appreciate you taking the time to provide it.

Kind Regards

Sara Williams (Matron ED).
